INSIGHTS ON IMPACT

Audience Engagement Surveys

Sometimes there are facts we should know. Other times there are no right or wrong answers, but there are questions that can challenge our assumptions and help us rethink issues. The audience engagement surveys are designed to do both.

ABOUT THE SURVEYS
The surveys are a valuable tool for you — educators and screening hosts — and for us to measure the impact of the documentary and its companion guides. They were designed by the filmmakers, educational advisors and our social impact partners.

INSIGHTS FROM FOCUS GROUPS
In advance of releasing the film we hosted focus groups with students, Rotary International and some global advisors including the Lumos Foundation and Faith 2 Action. The engagement surveys gave us valuable feedback on the film and how it can shift mentalities and behaviours.

How Students have RESPONDEd…

Q: What key message did you take away from this film?

Local people know what is best for the health and welfare of their communities. International collaboration and aid must support this work and let locals guide and implement the process.

That children are better off with their families than in orphanages and that’s how children will thrive.

Before donating money to a "good cause", do some background research first to see how genuine or ethic the cause is.

The best way to help people isn't to just give them things. It's to work with them to build systems towards recovery and development.

Q: Share a moment or a quote that stands out for you…

“When families are united the country can be united.”

The man who grew up in an orphanage gave his speech in London and he said he had not smiled for 12 years while he was in the orphanage system.

The ending where the little girl shared her hopes and dreams.

When Morgan said “I want people to help Haiti but I don’t want to do what I did.”

“When volunteers leave the orphanage they take all the hope and joy that leaves with them.”
